When you look at the numbers it's pretty clear that SMS messages can be fairly classified as a guaranteed read. In fact, SMS messaging has demonstrated the biggest increases in usage of any communication medium for the last three years in a row. It is estimated that between 4 billion and 5 billion text messages are sent and received every day.

From a marketing point of view, SMS is still relatively spam free and with such a high readership it is no wonder that more marketers are clamouring to use it as an essential part of their marketing strategy.

We all know that e-mail messages remained unanswered, and unread. Just take a look at your own inbox and you'll probably get a quick snapshot of what it's like anywhere in the world.

SMS messages on the other hand attract over a 97% readership with 83% of those being opened within one hour of receipt. It simply doesn't get any better than this.

At this rate, and with these figures, business text messaging is like a certified mail in a digital forum. In marketing circles, there is no other medium of which you can say that if you want something read, send it by text. The effectiveness of SMS was demonstrated in the USA presidential campaign, when nearly 3,000,000 people registered to receive SMS messages from the Obama campaign.

Now, sports teams and health clubs are using the same medium to mount publicity campaigns for special events and for their teams. It is easy to offer discounts on ticket prices or two for one trial offers and also to enhance existing campaigns with added incentives.

It is important nevertheless to make sure that you maintain the integrity of your company's image by avoiding all illegal activity and not turn SMS into a spam medium. Unfortunately spammers using automated diallers are beginning to infiltrate the SMS infrastructure whereby they can blast out millions of texts at random.

Most countries in the world now consider this as spam and you can be punished accordingly. Always bear in mind that the best marketing campaigns treats prospective customers with respect and care. The image you create with your campaign can raise the profile of your business and at the same time enhance your reputation.

In any case, if you do engage in any spam like activities, telephone carriers will be quick to terminate your account. In fact the control they exercise is greater than any Internet service provider can perform in relation to e-mail.

One other vital consideration to bear in mind is that SMS marketing should not take over your traditional marketing techniques. SMS broadcasting should be considered as an adjunct to whatever else you are dealing because you do or replace all your marketing eggs into the one basket.

With text messaging software improving every month it's important to work with companies that are at the cutting edge of this technology and if you really want to stay in front you should check out http://www.thetextworks.com/
