I always hate it when I pick up a business brochure and I can't tell who the person who wrote it was trying to sell to. Half the time it almost looks like they were writing to themselves more than they were writing to the potential customer. The type of wording they use, the facts they decide to emphasize, and the overall feel of the advertisement feels as if it wasn't directed at anyone but them.

This is the worst thing you can do with your advertisements no matter what kind they are. From the longer forms of brochure printing to the shorter flyer printing, you need to put a lot of thought into the way you word your advertisements and who exactly you're trying to pull in.

Every advertisement is about the customer. Never forget this. Above all else, you should be giving your customers a reason to come in and shop with you. If I'm not given a good reason I'm not going to bother to give a business any of my time.

Your headline needs to be something that will appeal to your audience. I'm not going to pick up a promotional flyer if the headline isn't something that grabs my attention. It might be as simple as an upcoming sale, but you need to make sure that your headline plainly states whatever your pitch is going to be.

Now that you have people's attention with your headline make sure you cover all the basics as quickly as possible. Now, what this means in relation to flyer printing isn't necessarily the same as what it will mean to brochure printing.

If your only goal is to tell someone about a sale by using a promotional flyer, what you need to do is make sure your headline lets people know there's a sale and the rest of the text tells them everything else they need to know: what the sale is, when it will be, what products are going to be on sale, and so on.

For something like a business brochure you may be trying to get a person to read more about your company. In this case it will still be all about the customer and not you. Here you'll want to give them reasons why they can trust you and why you're the best company to serve their needs. Everything you say about yourself should center on why this is important to the customer.

The best way to know if you're doing things right is to test your advertisements out. Ask other people to look over them and see if they know what the message is and if it appeals to them.

If you're going to spend the time and money on any kind of advertisement, you want to make sure you're going to get a good return on your investment. Just remember that you aren't writing for yourself and always keep the customer's needs in mind.
