Marketing has been the most popular and successful method of making sales and creating awareness of any product or event from time immemorial. It is the most effective and efficient way to promote any business. There are hundreds of different marketing methods and promotions now being used which have become familiar to us all through the Media. This article will concentrate on methods of marketing through the Internet.

Tremendous advances have been made recently with the availability of methods, tools and programs for marketing products on the Internet. You only have to look at some of the bigger websites and multinational companies to see how marketing is directed at potential customers. Marketing is not to be confused with advertising, although both will produce the same result, if carried out correctly.

If you have an excellent range of products and services most people tend to concentrate on telling the world how smart they are and how they can obtained at an affordable price. Little thought is given to the necessity of communicating with potential customers, interesting him/her in the product or service and convincing them they need that product or service. Once you have made a sale you must do all you can to build a firm and lasting relationship with your customer. If your marketing is correct you will achieve that aim.

Your main interest should be to build your business to a size you are satisfied with and which generates enough profits to give you a comfortable return. If you wish, you can go on expanding your business until you're happy with the level you've reached. This situation has to be planned. It is pointless repeating the same old promotions, using the same sales techniques, the same sales letters, the same products which will result in staying at the same level. There are many ways you can increase the size of your business which are well known and used constantly on the Internet today. We will discuss some of these methods a little later. Let us look at some ways you can increase your business without using the same old tired methods of sending out emails daily, the occasional Newsletter and the odd advertisement.

The more tactics you use to promote your business the more success you will have. Give that statement a moment's thought. Do the big car manufacturers advertise with only one media, e.g., television? Of course they don't. They advertise to create 'Brand Awareness'. The more the brand name and product is seen the more sales they will make. Therefore, it makes sense for you to consider how you can create 'Brand Awareness' for your product or service. If you market correctly this can be achieved quite easily.

A lot depends on the 'budget' you set for advertising, but please do not get carried away by the term 'budget'. If one of your marketing methods costs you $100 and the return for that expenditure is $150 it really hasn't cost you anything but it has brought you an extra $50 profit. If you set up your marketing campaign properly, track all the methods you use then you will quickly see if the sources you are using are profitable. If not, drop them or rework them. Keep on tracking them and you will soon build a picture of profitable methods and those to avoid.

There are several ways you can market your products at little or no cost. We are all familiar with email, this is one of the most effective ways to market your business, if it is done correctly. We will not go into the correct way to use email programs here, there are lots of information available on the Internet on how to do this. Another cheap way to market is by using 'free for all' advertising although it is not as successful it was, but still worth a try if your budget is limited. Paid adverts in eZines and Newsletters are a popular and effective method of promotion. But be sure you choose the correct publication targeted to your type of business. A very popular method currently being used is Pay Per Click which can be expensive if your keyword choices are too popular. Try experimenting with this method as it is very effective. I still haven't covered other methods of Marketing your business such as Public Relations, Affiliate Programs, Joint Ventures and the Telephone. I will post another article in the near future covering these and other methods of marketing your business. But, don't forget! Marketing is NOT about trying to sell your products or services. It is promoting your business, telling people what you have to offer and generally building 'Brand Awareness'.
